Water Damage Restoration in Wheat Ridge, CO

A split pipe after a subzero night, a floor drain pushing sewage into the basement, a hail-cracked roof dripping into the living room. One dial, one ZIP (for most of the city that is 80033), and you are describing the pumping out and drying to an independently owned restoration company that takes calls for Wheat Ridge ZIP codes.

Tell the provider which one you are dealing with. A clean pipe leak, a hail-damaged roof and a creek overflow are treated as different jobs from the first hour.

Burst lines when Front Range cold hits bottom

Denver bottomed out at −24°F on December 22, 2022, the night pipes burst across the metro. Lines in crawlspaces, garages and outside walls crack, then flood when the thaw comes. Close the main shutoff before anything else.

Hail holes and heavy spring snow

March is Wheat Ridge's snowiest month and April is close behind (NOAA 1991–2020 normals), and that late snow is wet and heavy enough to form ice dams. Hail that cracks shingles or skylights lets meltwater into attics and ceilings, often well away from the stain you notice.

High water off Clear Creek or Lena Gulch

Creek water counts as Category 3 under IICRC S500 because it can carry soil and sewage, so wet pad and the bottom of the drywall are usually thrown out.

Failed water heater and the rebuild after

A tank that lets go in a 1960s basement soaks framing fast. Once things are dry, the city requires permits for water heater replacement and basement finishes, so ask who pulls them.

Why Wheat Ridge is different

Postwar plumbing, Front Range weather and three floodplains

The orchards and carnation growers gave way to a 1950s housing boom for Denver commuters, and much of that housing is still standing. Add Front Range cold snaps, spring hail and two creeks, and water damage here follows its own pattern.

1965

Median year built

About 29% of Wheat Ridge homes date from the 1950s and 75% from before 1980 (ACS 2024 5-year). Pipes, sewer laterals, floor drains and water heaters of that age fail more often, and old vinyl or popcorn ceilings may need an asbestos check before wet material comes out.

−24°F

December 22, 2022

Denver fell to −24°F, 75 degrees below the 51°F of about 18 hours earlier, and firefighters across the metro answered hundreds of burst-pipe calls. NOAA's Wheat Ridge normals put the coldest night of an average year near −7°F.

1.75″

May 8, 2017 hail

The official Wheat Ridge spotter report was golf-ball hail, 1.75 inches; NWS Boulder logged stones up to 2.75 inches in Edgewater next door. The NWS noted significant damage at Lutheran Medical Center, and hail broke skylights and flooded stores at Colorado Mills in neighboring Lakewood. RMIIA put insured losses near $2.3 billion.

3

Mapped floodplains

Clear Creek runs across the northern third of the city, Lena Gulch through the southwest quadrant, and a smaller Sloan's Lake basin zone along 26th Avenue between Wadsworth and Sheridan. Upstream on Lena Gulch in Lakewood, 0.75 inch of rain in 15 minutes on June 8, 1987 flooded homes near W 20th Ave.

Call it in, tap your ZIP, tell them what got soaked

  1. 1
    Dial (844) 817-0243

If the power or your cell is out, a landline or a borrowed phone dials the same number.

  2. 2
Answer the recording with your ZIP (80033 for most of Wheat Ridge)

An automated question about your postal code comes before any human. Enter those five digits; it is the only way the system can tell a Wheat Ridge kitchen from one across Sheridan in Denver.

  3. 3
    Explain what got wet

Was it a supply line, the roof, creek water or the old floor drain? Did it reach a finished basement that will need a city permit to rebuild? Then ask the company about moisture readings, rates and who pulls that permit. Booking them is your choice alone.

Dated price ranges for water damage work

HomeAdvisor's cost guide (updated June 17, 2026) is national, not a Wheat Ridge survey. Hold a written scope up against it before you sign; nobody can price your house over the phone.

Whole range reported
$450–$16,000

From a small leak to a major loss; the reported mean is $3,868.

Class 1 to Class 3 drying
$150–$3,000

Class 1 runs $150–$400, Class 2 $500–$1,000, Class 3 $1,000–$3,000. Class 4, for soaked hardwood or plaster, can reach $20,000 or more.

If mold follows
$1,100–$3,400

Remediation on top of the drying bill, averaging about $2,225.

All figures: HomeAdvisor, updated June 17, 2026. The same guide rates Category 3 (sewage or floodwater) jobs at roughly twice the per-square-foot rate of clean supply-line water and puts drying at around five days before repairs begin.

Look the company up before work starts. Colorado has no statewide general contractor license. The City of Wheat Ridge requires a current city contractor license for paid work on private property in town; search it on the city OpenGov portal or ask the Building Division (303-235-2855, option 1). Plumbers and electricians also need state licenses, which you can check at DORA License Lookup. Restoration and mold work have no state license; IICRC S500 and S520 are voluntary standards.

Call (844) 817-0243

My mail says Denver, not Wheat Ridge. Which five digits do I give the recording?

Give the ZIP printed on your street address. Most of Wheat Ridge is 80033, but blocks along the east and south edges carry 80212, 80214 or 80215, which Wheat Ridge shares with its neighbors. 80034 is for post office boxes only, so skip it. The routing works off whatever you enter, then you speak with an independently owned restoration company and decide for yourself whether to book them.

The floor drain in my Wheat Ridge basement overflowed; is that a homeowners insurance claim?

Only if you bought coverage for it. The Colorado Division of Insurance says sewer and sump-pump backup is a separate add-on endorsement, and standard homeowners and renters policies do not cover flood. Creek water from Clear Creek or Lena Gulch falls under flood insurance, a separate policy that generally has a 30-day waiting period, so buying it after a storm warning will not help. Call your agent to confirm which endorsement you hold before agreeing to a drying contract.

Is my house in a Wheat Ridge floodplain?

The city maps three: Clear Creek across the northern third of town, Lena Gulch through the southwest quadrant to just east of Kipling Street, and the Sloan's Lake basin along 26th Avenue between Wadsworth and Sheridan. Wheat Ridge adopted the revised Jefferson County flood map effective August 2, 2022. The city Engineering Division at 7500 W 29th Ave answers floodplain questions at 303-234-5900.

Why could a flooded Wheat Ridge basement run past the national averages?

Three local costs sit outside a basic drying bill. Ceilings, flooring or pipe wrap from the 1950s and 1960s may need a certified asbestos inspection under Colorado Regulation 8 before anything is cut out. Rebuilding a finished basement needs a City of Wheat Ridge permit. And a floor-drain backup is Category 3 water, which HomeAdvisor (June 17, 2026) prices at more than double the per-square-foot rate of a clean supply leak. Ask for each of these to be listed separately on the written estimate.

Our 1950s ranch has popcorn ceilings. Can the wet drywall just come out?

Check first. Under Colorado's Regulation 8, disturbing more than 50 linear feet of pipe material, 32 square feet of other surfaces, or a 55-gallon drum's volume of material in a single-family home requires an inspection by a Colorado-certified asbestos inspector (CDPHE asbestos program) beforehand. Find out whether the restoration company arranges that test or expects you to before anyone cuts drywall.

Which Wheat Ridge license class fits the company rebuilding my basement?

The city sorts contractors into eight classes. Putting back drywall, trim and flooring in a house or duplex falls under Class 3 Residential General; a new water heater or repiping needs a Class 4 Plumbing holder who also carries Colorado Master Plumber and Plumbing Contractor licenses. Look up the city license on the OpenGov portal and the state one on DORA License Lookup. Drying and mold work have no state license of their own; IICRC S500 and S520 are voluntary standards.
